Turning to life outside of her home after her children were safely on their own, she was successful as the manager of a law office, as a real estate saleswoman, and as a real estate appraiser. Meanwhile, she returned to college. Evelyn earned her B.A. from Oakland University in Art History and her M.A. from of in Library and Information Science in her 60's.

Therafter and until her health failed, she worked as a reference librarian, first at Walsh College and then at OCC, where she also taught library science. Always a lover of music and art, she sang, played piano, and drew sketches. She shared her enthusiasm witth her children and grandchildren by encouraging their involvement and introducing them to museums, concerts, and theatre. She was a gracious and kind lady. Evelyn's gentle ways and warm smile spread happiness wherever she went, and though the part of the world she inhabited is better because she was in it, there is an emptiness in it now that she has left.
